Abstract

The horn beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) is one of the important pests of oil palm plants that attack the growing point. These pests attack at the top of the canopy by boring into the stem of the oil palm plant by using a hard and strong mandible. Horn beetle is an insect with a type of tool mouth biting and chewing. This pest is an important pest in oil palm crops because it can cause stunted growth of oil palm plants to cause death in severe attacks because pests attack the growing point. One of the control techniques that can be used is by utilizing entomopatogenic fungi. In this research, entomopatogen fungi isolate Metarhizium majus with SO2 isolate codes from lowland area of Riau Province which subsequently become the basic material of isolate which grow on corn substance given time treatment and application dose. Metarhizium majus isolate test was done by mixing dose isolate with empty palm oil bunches medium with conidia density 1x107 / mL into research plot. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of active isolates of Metarhizium majus on the mortality of Oryctes rhinoceros larvae. The research was conducted in two experimental sites, namely experimental field and Entomology laboratory (Experiment 1) Research Center PT Gunung Sejahtera Ibu Pertiwi, Tbk. Central Kalimantan from August 2017 to January 2018. Laboratory studies using a completely randomized design with 5 treatments, 5 replications, and observed every 3 days. The morning application field research (Experiment 2) used a complete randomized design with 5 treatments, 6 replications in the morning and afternoon observed every 7 days. The afternoon app field study (Experiment 3) used a complete randomized design with 5 treatments, 6 replications in the morning and afternoon observed every 7 days. Based on the results of research that has been done in the field of morning application (Experiment 2) showed that the percentage mortality of O. rhinoceros larvae due to application of M. majus isolate no significant effect on larval mortality. The highest mortality rate occurred in the treatment of dose of 200 g of morning isolate (100.00%) and the lowest was dose isolate 50 g morning (74.44%). The lowest LT50 value is on the 50 g morning isolate that is 28.63 days and the highest LT50 in the field is the isolate dose 200 that is 19.99 days. While the results of research that has been done in the field of application of the afternoon (Experiment 3) shows that the percentage mortality of O. rhinoceros larvae due to application of M. majus isolate has no significant effect on larval mortality. the highest mortality occurred in the treatment of dose isolate 200 g afternoon (98.89%) and the lowest dose of isolate 50 g morning (84.44%). The lowest value of LT50 is on isolate 100 g of morning that is 23.92 day and LT50 highest in field that is dose isolat 200 g morning that is 19.65 days. The results showed that from the 3 experiments it was seen that the percentage mortality of O. rhinoceros larvae due to application of M. majus isolate had no significant effect on larval mortality. The results showed that the treatment of M. majus isolate was effective in suppressing the population of beetle horn larvae.
