Abstract

The prevalence of obesity in elementary school students in Indonesia has increased from 2013 to 2018 and Bengkulu Province is one of 15 provinces that has obesity rates in elementary school students above the national figure. Obesity in children is a serious problem because it will continue into adulthood which will result in a higher risk of experiencing various health problems and can be a risk factor for metabolic and degenerative diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between snack food consumption patterns and physical activity with the incidence of obesity. This research is a quantitative research using a cross sectional study design. The data obtained were processed using the statistical software and analyzed with univariate, bivariate with Chi-Square test and multivariate with binary logistic regression test. The study population of this study were all students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Bengkulu City. Respondents amounted to 84 people who were selected by stratified proportional random sampling technique. The results of the analysis stated that there was a relationship between gender, pattern of snack food consumption, physical activity, sleep duration and the incidence of obesity (p-value < 0,05). There is no relationship between age and obesity status of parents with the incidence of obesity (p-value > 0,05). The most dominant variable influencing the incidence of obesity is the pattern of snack food consumption with the value of Exp(B) = 40,650.
