Abstract

The purpose of this study was to apply organic coloring in rubber foam compound production and to compare the quality between organic and synthetic coloring agents. This research was conducted at Research Laboratory Technology, Sembawa Banyuasin and analysis was conducted at Rubber Research Center, Bogor firom May 2017 until December 2017. This research used Completely Randomized nonFactorial Design (RAL) with two treatment consiting of organic and syntetic coloring agents, each treatment was repeated 2 times. The observed parameters in this research were hardness (Shore A), tear strength (N/cm), specific gravity (kg/m3), compression set (%) and colour analysis. The results showed that the addition of organic coloring and coloring concentration had no significant effect on hardness, tear strength, specific gravity and compression set. Addition of organic coloring at concentration of 6 g/150 g latex was the best treatment because it had hardness of 22.8 Shore A, specific gravity 112.5 kg/m3 and compression set 13.83%.
