Abstract

Nausea vomiting is one of the side effects of chemotherapy that is often felt by breast cancer patients. This situation becomes serious for patient so that it causes anxiety, stress and affects the patient's quality of life. Although antiemetics have been given, nausea and vomiting that is influenced by anxiety are more difficult to control. Nonpharmacological efforts are important to do so that they can be used as an adjunct in overcoming nausea and anxiety, namely by providing autogenic relaxation and acupressure. This study aims to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation and acupressure on nausea vomiting and anxiety of post-chemotherapy breast cancer patients. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest posttest with control group technique and sample determination was taken using purposive sampling techniques. Acupressure administration is given the first 6 hours and the second 6 hours, autogenic relaxation is given the first 6 hours after chemotherapy. Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between nausea vomiting after being given autogenic relaxation and acupressure in the intervention group and autogenic relaxation in the control group with a p value=0.0001. Data analysis using the unpaired T test showed a significant difference between anxiety after being given autogenic relaxation and acupressure in the intervention group and autogenic relaxation in the control group with a p value=0.012. The results showed that the intervention group was dominated by non-vomiting nausea in the posttest and the control group was dominated by mild vomiting nausea. The anxiety of the intervention group predominantly did not experience anxiety and in the control group was dominated by mild anxiety. This study proved that autogenic relaxation and acupressure have a significant effect on vomiting nausea and anxiety of post-chemotherapy breast cancer patients and can be used as an alternative to nursing interventions.
