Abstract

ABSTRACT Tuberculosis is a direct infectious disease caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Tuberculosis is influenced by several risk factors such as age, gender, socioeconomic, smoking habits, ventilation, humidity, air temperature, occupancy density, intensity of natural lighting and environmental tobacco smoke. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of housing in the community with the incidence of pulomary tuberculosis. This research is a qualitative research with a case control study design with a purposive random sampling technique of 80 respondents (40 BTA+ and 40 BTA-). Data were analyzed using Chi-Square test, and multivariate using multiple logistic regression test with factor model. Bivariate results show that there is a relationship between socio economic (p-value 0,002) and there is no relationship between ventilation (p-value 0,615), temperature (p-value 0,293), humidity (p-value 0,054), occupancy density (p-value 1,000), natural lighting intensity (p-value 0,359), environmental tobacco smoke (p-value 0,811), smoking habits (p-value 0,44), age (p-value 0,488) and gender (p-value 0,178) on the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis, and the multivariate analysis showed that the smoking habits variable (p-value 0,016) was the dominant variable after controlling for the variables of age, sex, indoor humidity. Natural lighting intensity, temperature and occupancy density. It can be concluded that people who have quality residential housing that does not meet the requirements can increase the risk for the spread of tuberculosis. The advice that can be given is that people can open windows every day so that sunlight and air can circulate properly to avoid humidity in the room and the proliferation of mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria.
