Abstract

The durable and non-decomposed nature of plastic poses a big problem after its use, and the increasing presence of plastic waste is very dangerous for the sustainability of the environment and ecosystems. Converting plastic waste into alternative fuels by utilizing the pyrolysis process is one of the most efficient ways to deal with the problem of plastic waste. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of heating temperature on the pyrolysis process and the characteristics of fuel oil produced from the combined pyrolysis of polystyrene (PS) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste. The analyzed fuel oil's characteristics include density, viscosity, and calorific value. Plastic pyrolysis is operated by varying the heating temperature respectively 300 °C, 350 °C, 400 °C, and 450 °C with a processing time of about 50 minutes by using 500 grams of plastic waste with a composition of 50% Polystyrene (PS) plastic waste and 50% Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste. Based on the results, 1) the highest pyrolysis oil is produced at a temperature of 450 °C, is 326 ml. 2) the highest density of pyrolysis oil is produced at a temperature of 450 °C, is 0.859 "gr" ⁄"ml" . 3) the highest viscosity of pyrolysis oil is produced at a temperature of 450 °C, is 2,489 mPa.s. 4) the highest calorific value of pyrolysis oil is produced at a temperature of 450 °C, is 9016.8142 "kal" ⁄"gr" . The resulting pyrolysis fuel oil characteristics are equivalent to diesel fuel.
