Abstract

The main cause of global warming is the increase in greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere produced by activities such as industry, transportation, and agriculture. The existence of mangrove forests in coastal areas as an effort to reduce CO2 gas content from the atmosphere. The purpose of this study was to analyze the value of biomass, carbon stock and carbon dioxide uptake stored in the Kandelia candel (L.) Druce stand and to compare the value of biomass, carbon stock and carbon dioxide uptake at the two observation stations. The research was carried out in January 2022. Determination of observation stations using the purposive sampling method, namely there are two observation stations according to the presence of the diameter of the stem of K. candel 5 cm. Three perpendicular transect lines were determined from the river to the land as far as 100 m on each transect with a plot size of 10 m x 10 m and a distance between plots of 10 m. data collection at the research location in the form of data around the stem and the number of Kandelia candel (L.) Druce. The results of the circumference to diameter conversion were analyzed using an allometric model to estimate the biomass value. Comparative analysis of biomass value, carbon stock and carbon dioxide uptake at the two observation stations. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the biomass value of the two observation stations was 342.70 tons/ha with the highest biomass value found at station II, namely 193.69 tons/ha. The carbon stock value in the Kandelia candel (L.) Druce stand on Payung Island was 157.65 C/ha, while the carbon dioxide uptake value in the Kandelia candel (L.) Druce stand on Payung Island was 571.32 tons CO2/ha.
