Abstract
Abstract The research then was about performance and durability tests on the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) using the catalyst of Pt-Ru/C and Pt/C for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) Mulitstack. Membrane Electrode Asssembly (MEA) was made by combining Pt-Ru/C and Pt/C with nafion membrane 117. MEA were characterized using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) to determine the site active catalytic and the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to determine the electrical conductivity value. Based on the characterization results, the ECSA value was 1.48 cm2/g and the electrical conductivity value was 7.48 ×10-8 S/cm. Performance test showing optimum Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) on metanol with 10% concentration as 3.2 V. Best performance test of DMFC multistack at methanol with 20 % concentration showed the current density value was 0,63 mA/cm2 and the optimum power density value was 1 mW/cm2. Endurance test on MEA for 6 hours showed that the initial voltage of 2.77 V dropped to 2.245 V with a difference of 0.525 V.
