Abstract

Emission disposal in industrial processes discharged through chimneys usually contain harmful particulates. Particulates are a form of air pollution whose constituent mixtures of organic and inorganic matter in the atmosphere are liquids or solids. Efforts in reducing pollution can be done with a particle separator, namely a separator. In this study, an experimental study of the particle separation process in the tangential cyclone separator form will be carried out. The selection of cyclone separators is due to the relatively cheap price of the product, does not have moving parts so that maintenance is easier, and is not easily vulnerable during severe operating conditions. The type of separator used in this study is a dual cyclone separator type. Variations of test samples in this study were sawdust, bran and coconut shells. The main objective in this study is to analyze the total particles of deposited and wasted particles, so that a minimization process can be carried out on emissions / test particles wasted in the work of dual cyclone separators and analyze the resulting performance efficiency value. Based on the tests that have been carried out, it was found that if the higher the velocity generated, the mass of particles that are wasted and the mass of particles that are deposited is lower. The highest efficiency occurred in coconut shell powder samples reaching 97.13% at a velocity of 15 m/s, while the lowest occurred in bran powder reaching 92% at a velocity of 7 m/s.
