Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelago region. One of the most important parts of the archipelago is the coastal areas. Coastal areas have a strategic significance because it is a transitional area between marine and terrestrial ecosystems have unique properties and characteristics, and contain fairly large biological production and other environmental services. Various activities around the coastal area of Air Telang Protected Forest changed the conditions of Vegetation Density or level vegetation index (NDVI) that exist in the area. To detect changes in the Density of Vegetation or NDVI quickly and accurately then use remote Sensing Technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The purpose of this study was to determine the determine the level of Vegetation Density in coastal areas Air Telang Protected Forest, and determine changes in Vegetation Density in coastal areas Air Telang Protected Forest between 2007, 2016 until 2021. The results showed that the NDVI values obtained were in the range < 0 to > 0.75 for 2007 is -0.1 to 0.4 while for 2016 the NDVI value is – 0.23 to 0.9 and in 2021 the value is - 0.24 to 0.8. There was a change in density in the coastal area of the Air Telang Protected Forest, namely the addition of a vegetation density area of 6564,12 ha between 2007-2016 in medium class density area, and the most extensive decrease in the area of vegetation density classes occurred in non-vegetation class density area, which was 610.05 ha between 2016-2021.
