Abstract

Background: Allergic rhinitis is a disease with type 1 hypersensitivity nasal response, primarily mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE). It is very important to identify the risk factor, clinical manifestation, characteristic and management of allergic rhinitis so that we can decrease the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and prevent the complication of the disease. Studies of general view of allergic rhinitis patients in Ear Nose Throat Head and Neck Department of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital on January lst 2009-October 3lst 2011 is never been done before. Objective: The purpose of this study is to know the whole general view of allergic rhinitis patients in Ear Nose Throat Head and Neck Department of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital on January lst 2009-October 3lst 201L Methode: An observational study with cross sectional approach was held from October-November 2011 in Medical Record of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. The populations of this research were allergic rhinitis patients who had been put in medical record on January lst 2009-October 3lst 2011. The sample of this research is taken from whole populations. Researcher used tables, diagram and explanation to analyze the variable of this study. Results: There are 449 allergic rhinitis patients. Repeated sneezing is the most clinical manifestation that can be found. There are 78 allergic rhinitis patients in the age of 16-20. There are 209 men and 240 are women. There are 108 patients that allergic to dust and 19 patients suffered from urtikaria. There are 14 patients suffered rhinosinusitis as a comorbid. An oral antihistamine dugs is given to 361 allergic rhinitis patients Conclusion: Prevalance of allergic rhinitis of this research is 449 patients. The most shown clinical manifestation is repeated sneezing. There are 78 allergic rhinitis patients in the age of 16-20 and characteristic of women is more than men. Most patients allergic to dust, urtikaria and rhinosinusitis is mostly found in the patients. An oral antihistamine dugs is the most given drugs to allergic rhinitis patients.
