Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas pertumbuhan vegetatif dari beberapa varietas benih padi sawah lebak pada media tanah dan kertas merang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Teknologi Benih Jurusan Budidaya Pertanian, Program Studi Agronomi, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, dimulai dari bulan Februari 2012 sampai Maret 2012. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Faktorial (RAKF) terdiri dari 5 perlakuan (5 varietas), masing-masing perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali sehingga ada 25 ulangan. 5 varietas benih padi yang digunakan yaitu Ciherang, Pegagan, Siam, IR 46, dan IR 70. Setiap 5 varietas benih padi ditanam pada 2 media yang berbeda yaitu tanah (T) dan kertas merang (K). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor media tanam tanah dan kertas merang berpengaruh nyata terhadap peubah tinggi tanaman dan panjang kecambah benih pada varietas Siam, sedangkan peubah panjang akar, berat kering batang dan daun, dan berat kering akar pada media tanah dan peubah panjang akar, berat basah batang dan daun, dan berat basah akar pada media kertas merang berpengaruh tidak nyata. Pertumbuhan vegetatif terbaik benih padi sawah lebak pada media tanah dan kertas merang terdapat pada varietas Siam.
