Abstract

BACKGROUND: Cholelithiasis is common issues found in westem country and developing country. In Indonesia, cholelithiasis received recently clinical attention, while the publication of the study is still limited. The incidence of Cholelithiasis in Indonesia is not much different with the incidence in other country in South-East Asia. This study aimed to describe overview of cholelithiasis patients in Surgery Department Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in period July 2011 to June 2012. METHODS: Observational descriptive with secondary data from medical records of cholelithiasis patients in period July 2011 to June 2012. Analyses are using descriptive statistical method. RESULTS: There are 91 medical records, which included in 142 populations. Based 91 medical records, the patients’ proportion whose female 56 (61,54%) and male 35 (38,46%). Most cases occur in age group 50-59 years old. Patients’ proportion who’s live in urban areas 77 (84,61%) and rural areas 14 (15,39%). Patients’ proportion who’s symptomatic 89 (97,8%) and asymptomatic 2 (2,2%). Patients’ physical finding proportion was 42 (42,86%) no finding, 35 (35,71%) right upper quadrant tendemess, 15 (15,31%) murphy sign, 5 (5,1%) icterus, and 1 (1,02%) hepatomegaly. In laboratory proportion, haemoglobin was 56 (61,54%) normal and 35 (38,46%) decrease; leukocyte was 69 (75,2%) normal and 22 (24,18%) increase; alkaline phosphatase was 39 (42,86%) normal, 13 (14,28%) increase and 39 (42,86%) unknown; total bilirubin was 70 (76,92%) normal, 20 (21,98%) increase and 1 (1,1%) unknown; direct bilirubin was 84 (92,31%) normal, 6 (6,59%) increase and 1 (1,1%) unknown. Indirect bilirubin was 87 (95,60%) normal, 3 (3,30%) increase and 1 (1,1%) unknown; AST was 57 (62,64%) normal, 15 (16,48%) increase and 19 (20,88%) unknown; ALT was 55 (60,44%) normal, 17 (18,68%) increase and 19 (20,88%) unknown; blood sugar was 84 (92,31%) normal, 3 (3,29%) increase and 4 (4,4%) unknown; cholesterol was 13 (14,28%) normal, 11 (12,09%) increase, and 67 (73,63%) unknown. Operative therapy with laparoscopic cholecystectomy was 83 (91,21%) and open cholecystectomy was 8 (8,79%). Period of hospitalized was most occur in range less than 5 days which was 44 (48,35%), in range 6-10 days which was 33 (36,26%), in range 11-15 days which was 10 (10,99%), in range 16-20 days which was 3 (3,30%), and in range more than 20 days which was 1 (1,10%). All patients was survive 91 (100%), none of patients was suffer and died. CONCLUSION: Patients of cholelithiasis in period July 2011- June 2012 mostly occur in age group 50-59 years old which was women frequently occur in woman than man. Most patients live in urban area, have symptomatic sign and have none of physical finding. Laparoscopy cholecystectomy was the most done of operative therapy, which was mostly done in range less than 5 days of hospitalisation. All patients was survive.
