Abstract

Background. Malaria eradication program has been done continuously, but the cases are still increasing. One of the reasons is antimalarial drug resistance problem. AJthough the current regimen of Artemisinin Combination Therapy is the first-line therapy for malaria, especially P. falciparum, the effectiveness of this drug against each of the plasmodium species that infect humans is still not known widely. Objectives. To determine the successful use percentage of Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) as an antimalarial regimen. Methods. This research is descriptive. Data obtained finom medical records of the inpatient malaria at Intem Departement RSUP Dr. Moh. Hoesin Palembang, declared malaria clinically, proven by laboratory examinations, and ACT treatment was given. At this research, 43 people was found as the study subjects. Results. Total clinical cure rate malaria is 88% whereas total microscopically cure rate is 50%. Clinical cure rate for falciparum malaria, vivax, malariae, mixed falsiparum-vivax and mixed falsiparum-malariae malaria are 82%, 100%, 100%, 100%, and 88%. Microscopically cure rate for falciparum malaria, vivax, malariae and mixed falciparum-malariae malaria are 50%, 100%, 50%, and 33%. Clinical cure rate for severe malaria is 33%.
