Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood. The treatment is needed to replace some of the important jobs of the kidney. One of the treatments for kidney failure is hemodialysis. Total kidney replacement requires more thanjust dialysis, but also a minimum amount of dialysis (adequacy hemodialysis) is required to optimize both the duration and the qualiiy of life. The number of patients undergoing hemodialysis in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang was high and increase every years although the data of the adequacy hemodialysis not yet been documented. Objective: This study aimed to describe adequacy hemodialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang Period ofNovember-December 2012 Method: This was an observational descriptive research. The population of this research were all of the patients undergoing hemodialysis in the Instalation. The sample were chronic hemodialysis patients which consisted of 105 patients. Data was obtained through direct documentation to the patients status and medical records. Results: From 105 patients, estimated by Kt/V value showed 45 patients (43%) had adequate dialysis, inadequate dialysis among 9 patients (8,5%) and 51 patients (48,5%) unknwon. Conclusion: Patients undergoing hemodialysis in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital had about 43%) an adequate dialysis. But since the method of blood sample obtained immediate after hemodialysis, over estimation might be occur and contributed to the error of the determinations, should be revisited to confirm these result.
