Abstract

Introduction: Nutrition plays an important role in the human life cycle and malnutrition in children will lead to growth and development impairments. Factors that contribute to nutrition in children include dietary intake and health level. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship betweeen nutrition status and disease pattems of hospitalized children at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Method: This analytical observational study using a cross sectional approach was conducted at Pediatric Ward Muhammad Hoesin hospital Palembang Period January-Febraury 2014. In this study, primary data were used derived from anmnesis process that leads to disease pattems of hospitalized children and children and anthropometric measurement was done to determine child’s nutritional status. In this study, children who were treated in January-February 2014 at Pediatric Department RSMH used as a population. Then, using consecutive sampling, children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria used as a research subjects. In the determination of the minimum sample size was used analytical correlative formula. Results: Total subject in this study is 121 children that consisted of 77 male (63,6%) and 44 female (36,4%). Anamnesis result is 63 (52,1%) children had an infection diseases, 58 (47,9%) children had a non-infection diseases. And 63 (52,1%) children are hospitalized not more than 14 days, and 58 (47,9%) children are hospitalized more than 14 days. Nutritional status that was measured by W/H, shown that 14 (11,6%) subjects had malnutrition. There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and type of diseases (p=0.012, OR=1.921). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and disease pattems of hospitalized children at Pediatric Ward Mohammad Hoesin Hospital.
