Abstract

Background: Meningitis is one of causes of morbidity and mortality in babies and children under 5 years old. The aim of this study is to know clinical features of meningitis patient hospitalized in RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, January 2011 - December 2012. Method: This was a descriptive study by using cross sectional design. Data was collected from medical records of meningitis patient hospitalized in installation of pediatric inpatient of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, January 201-December 2012. Result: The distribution based on meningitis classification, there were 67% meningitis bacterial cases found, 24 % of viral meningitis cases, and the rest 9% were tuberculosis meningitis cases. Based on sex, 57% of them were men, and the rest 43% were woman. Based on age, 38% of them were in the age of >5 years old, 35% of them were in the age of <1 years old, and the rest 27% were in the age of 1-5 years old. There were 67% patients came fforn outside Palembang. Nutritional patient of children that was mostly found was in good status (62%). The most symptomp found in patients were fever (78%), vomitting (78%), seizure (97%), headache (58%), andnuchal rigidity (78%). Decreasing of State of conciousness were found in 83% patients. Based on condition after treatment, 68,25% patients were in good condition, 25.4% died and 6,35% insisted to go home Conclusion: Meningitis bacterial was the most one which happened. Meningitis often happened in male kid and those under 1 years old. The most symptomp found was seizure, fever, vomitting, headache, nuchal rigidity and decreasing State of consciousness. Most of patients came back home in good condition, but those who died was still in high cases.
