Abstract

Manufacturing technology that continues to develop until 2022 opens many new windows in overcoming various problems that were previously difficult to deal with, especially with the rapid development of 3 Dimensional (3D) printing technology using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method. 3D printing machines can be applied to various fields, some examples such as prototyping turbine blades, jewelry design, mold making, building construction, making simple tools for home, and network engineering. The 3D printing machine is ideal for application in the manufacture of bone scaffolds because of its ability to form in detail both the outside and the inside of the desired object by relying on a layer by layer printing system The use of PolylacticAcid-Magnesium (PLA-Mg) biocomposite for additive manufacturing (AM) is still relatively new and not many has provided PLA-Mg biocomposite in the form of filament for 3D printing purposes. The purpose of this filament extrusion machine design process is to create a working drawing of a filament extrusion machine design that is safe, capable of producing filaments, economical, and simple to manufacture. The design process carried out refers to the Product Design and Development book by Kart T. Unich with some modifications to shorten the design process. The design process consists of several main steps, namely: Problem definition, concept generation, design selection, analysis and simulation, and detailed design. This design process begins by defining the problem to be solved, namely the lack of availability of PLA-Mg biocomposite materials in the form of filaments that can be used for the 3D printing process. Based on the problem definition, a solution was made to make a filament extrusion machine capable of producing PLA-Mg biocomposite filaments. To produce the best machine design, a design process is carried out that focuses on the objectivity of the final objective of the filament product in accordance with the desired criteria and material properties, namely in the form of a filament with the best specification in terms of functionality, quality, safety, mobility, availability, and economy. Various models were developed and selected based on a predetermined index in the form of an objective matrix so that the final model was obtained for detailed design and drawing. The result of this design process is a working drawing of a filament extrusion machine product consisting of: working drawings of the framework, working drawings of couplings, working drawings of nozzles, working drawings of screw conveyors, working drawings of cylinders/sleeves, working drawings of funnels, working drawings of motors, and working drawings. heating element. This filament extrusion machine has the following specifications: Total dimensions 80 x 50 x 120 cm, production capacity 4kg/hour, screw diameter 2.75 cm, Tilt angle (Φ) 15° Pitch distance (p) 1.2 cm, Screw length (L) = 50 cm, channel width 1.159 cm, has a motor propulsion of 0.75 kW, uses an electric system to regulate the motor rotation speed and the temperature of the heating element, and the transmission system uses a shaft and clutch. The specifications of the filament that can be produced are in the form of PLA filaments or composite filaments with filament diameters that can be varied by changing the nozzle size.
