Abstract

Introduction: Entropion is a common eyelid malposition in which the margin turns inward again the globe in such a way that eyelid margin, eyelashes, and skin of the eyelids rub againts the comea resulting in irritative symptoms, microbial keratitis, comeal ulceration, and visual loss. There is no data for prevalence and characteristic of entropion patients at Department of Ophthalmology in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Purpose: To obtain prevalence and characteristic of entropion patients at Department of Ophthalmology in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This is an observational-descriptive research in a cross-sectional approach which used secondary data from medical record. Results: From January 2010 to December 2012, there are 12 patients with entropion and the prevalence is 0,031%, 0,079%, and 0,134% each year. Entropion in female is 58,3% and in male is 41,7%. Out of 12 patients, 6 patients involutional entropion (50%), 5 patients cicatricial entropion (41,7%), and 1 patient congenital entropion (8,3%). Conclusions: There was increasing prevalence of entropion from 2010 to 2012 although it was <1%. Entropion was found that females more frequent than males. Involutional entropion is the most common type seen in this research.
