Abstract
Antioxidants are chemical compounds that can protect body cells from damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants based on the source are divided into two, namely natural antioxidants derived from plants and synthetic antioxidants derived from chemicals. Natural antioxidants obtained from seaweed were developed as a substitute for synthetic antioxidants. The seaweeds used include Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gracilaria sp and Gelidium sp. method of testing antioxidant activity using DPPH reduction. The antioxidant results from several concentrations qualitatively have antioxidant potential. Quantitative analysis of crude extract has a high potency on Gelidium sp extract based on IC₅₀ value of 49 ppm. Keywords: Antioxidant, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gracilaria sp, Gelidium sp, DPPH
