Abstract

Introduction. Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus is one of the most common microbes causing invasive nosocomial infections in children. However, not much research has been done on this matter in Indonesia, especially in Palembang. The purpose of this study was to determine the demographic and clinical profile of pediatric patients with invasive Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus infection at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in 2021. Method. Observational descriptive study with a retrospective design that uses secondary data in the form of data from the Central Laboratory and Medical Record Installation of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in 2021. The data of this study were analyzed univariately. Results. Data found in the older children age group patients were found as many as 139 (68.4%) and neonates 64 (31.5%). The percentage of Negative Staphylococcus Coagulase infection was 16.9%. 120 (59%) patients were male and received non-intensive care (168 (82.7%)). The majority of patients had peripheral intravenous catheters attached (174 (85.7%)). The dominant species found were S. haemolyticus (36.7%), S. epidermidis (29.7%), and S. hominis ssp hominis (27.5%). A total of 194 isolates (85.8%) were resistant to methicillin, 159 isolates (70.3%) were resistant to clindamycin, 139 (61.5%) were resistant to ciprofloxacin, and 123 (54.5%) isolates were resistant to levofloxacin. Conclusion. The prevalence of Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus infection was 16.9%. There is a predilection of the age of older children, males, and non-intensive care patients who have peripheral intravenous catheters attached. The dominant species found are S. haemolyticus, S. epidermidis, and S. hominis ssp hominis. The majority of isolates are resistant to methicillin.
