Abstract

Introduction Vitamin D deficiency nowadays has become a concern in the entire world. Vitamin D needs can be met through direct synthesis in the cutaneous with the help of UVB rays and food intake. Currently, students rarely get direct exposure to the sunlight so it’s important to meet the needs through food intake. This study aims to identify adequacy of vitamin D food intake in students at Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University. Methods This research was a decriptive study using questionnaire and Body Mass Index (BMI) observation. Dietary assessment method that used was food recall 2 x 24 hours which then analyzed using Nutrisurvey 2007. The subject of the study are students at Medical of Faculty Sriwijaya University were 259 people who are willing and meet the inclusion criteria. Results The results showed from 259 subjects as much as 98,8% of the subject didn’t meet the needs of vitamin D intake with an average consumption of 123 ± 142 IU per day. The types of foods that contribute the most are catfish (20%) and eggs (20%). There aren’t subject that consume vitamin D supplements. Characteristics of the subject were age, sex, BMI, protection against sunlight, exposure to sunlight, and drug use. Conclusion Almost all the subject didn’t get enough vitamin D from food intake based on RDA so it can lead to vitamin D deficiency.
