Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the ultrasonication process on the performance of fiber cotton coloring with sappanwood (Caesalpina sappan Linn) extract. This study used a Factorial Complete Randomized Design (RALF) with two treatment factors which each treatment was repeated three times. A-factor was frequency (20 kHz and 40 kHz) and B-factor was ultrasonication time (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 min). The parameters observed were lightness (L*), redness (a*), yellowness (b*) and total color difference (ΔE*). The results showed that frequency has a significant effect on lightness (L*). The frequency and ultrasonication time had a significant effect on redness (a*), yellowness (b*) and total color difference (ΔE*). The A2B5 (40 kHz, 30 minutes) was the most recomended treatment for coloring fiber cotton with characteristics for lightness (62.7%), redness (23.3%), yellowness (2.36%) dan total color difference (0.53%.).
