Abstract

Indonesia has great potential of wind energy. With wind velocity that averagely low, wind turbine installation in Indonesia should have a design (shape and rotor geometry, height and turbine width, number of rotor) that suitable used in Indonesia territory. This experiment will compare two wind turbines, helical savonius wind turbine without guide vane and helical savonius wind turbine with twelve guide vane, to see the effect of stator (guide vane) utilization in that turbine. With three wind velocity varieties that are tested, 3 m/s, 3,5 m/s, and 4 m/s, the utilization of guide vane is able to increase maximum power that is generated by turbine. This increase is happened at tsr value of the turbine as well. Maximum tsr value at three wind velocity varieties are 1,203; 1,334; 1,504. Thus, it can be concluded that the utilization of stator (guide vane) is able to make steadier performance in helical savonius wind turbine.
