Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are an important vegetable commodity because shallots can be used by the public as raw materials for medicines and as a complement to cooking spices. The main shallot producing areas in Indonesia are Brebes, Pekalongan, Tegal, Cirebon, Wates and Solo. The increase and decrease in shallot production is due to the technical culture system in its cultivation is still not optimal, one way to increase shallot production is by applying organic fertilizers and improving cultivation techniques. Cow dung fertilizer is one of the organic fertilizers that can increase nutrients in the soil both macro and micro, and can improve soil structure. This study was conducted to determine the best dose of cow dung compost on onion plants of the Ambassador variety. This research was carried out at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya in June – August 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 treatments, each treatment consisted of 3 tests then each test there were 3 plants, so that there were 36 plant units. The treatment consists of P0 = Control, P1 = 8:1 (soil volume : fertilizer volume), P2 = 7:2 (soil volume : fertilizer volume) and P3 = 6:3 (soil volume : fertilizer volume). The parameters observed in this study included leaf length, number of leaves, degree of leaf greenness, number of saplings, number of bulb, length of roots, diameter of bulb, chlorophyll analysis, fresh weight of bulb, dry weight of bulb wind, wet weighted, dry weighted. Based on the results of the study, it showed that the treatment of cow dung compost with a dose of P3 = 6:3 (soil volume: fertilizer volume) which gave very significant results had a very significant effect on the parameters of leaf length from week 2 to week 6, fresh weight of bulb, dry weight of bulb, fresh weighted and dry weighted.
