Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a microalgae cyanobacteria that has many components of active compounds, one of them useful as an antibacterial. This study aims to see the concentration of Spirulina platensis biomass that can inhibit the growth of Propionicterium acne bacteria which is one of the factors causing acne. Skin problems are often encountered by the community, especially teenagers acne (acne). Biomass antibacterial activity Spirulina platensis was performed by looking at the minimum inhibitory concentration (KHM) of biomass by using diffusion method for the disc obtained at concentration of 1% with mean inhibition zone diameter 0.226 ± 0.122 mm. Furthermore, the obtained KHM will be used as the concentration of the active ingredient for the cosmetic preparation of the peel off gel mask. Spirulina platensis biomass is standardized in advance to ensure the quality of the biomass as an initial product of the preparation that meets the established requirements. The result of biomass standardization was obtained by water content value of 18.767 ± 0.027%, drying rate 18.797± 0.027%, ash content 2.069 ± 1.993%, water soluble extract 6.542 ± 0.060%, ethanol soluble extract 9.696 ± 0.423%, total plate number 3 x 103 CFU/g, and yeast figure of 1.695 x 103 CFU/g. The formulation of cosmetic preparations such as peel off mask as an antijerawat of Spirulina platensis biomass was done by optimizing the formula using factorial design 23. The optimum formula obtained at each concentration of biomass Spirulina platensis 1%, PVA 10.375%, HPMC 60SH 4%, 2% glycerin, nipagin 0.075%, and nipasol 0.025%. The formula was then tested for antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method and got the average diameter zone inhibition zone of gel mask gel peel off of 1.486 ± 0.277 mm. The results show that the base component of the gel peel off gel preparation used can increase the activity of Spirulina platensis.
