Abstract

Tooth paste containing herbal ingridients can be an alternative to reduce the symptoms ofgingivitis. One of the herbal ingridients which recently studied by scientists is that Aloe vera. The aim ofthis study was to determine the effect ofa toothpaste that contains Aloe vera to gingivitis. Methods ofresearch conducted on 32 samples consisting students ofSDN 113 aged 10 to 11 years who comprised the 16 students to the treatment group and 16 students to the control group. PBI scores were measured before and after treatment on thefirst day, then measured again on day seven. The results were analyzed usingpaired T testfor differences in each group ofsamples. In the treatment group gained a probability value for 0000 (p <0. 05), in the control group gained a probability value for 0,058 (p> 0.05). This result shows that there are significant differencesfor the treatment group and there are no significant differencesfor the control group. The analysis continued by using unpaired Ttestfor differences between groups ofsamples, the probability values obtained for 0,007 (p <0,05), this proves that there are significant differences between groups of treated samples with the groups of control samples, and the difference is quite significant. From the research, it can be concluded that the efficacy ofa toothpaste that contains Aloe vera effective for reducing gingivitis. Advised to do further research with the use of different concentrations on Aloe vera toothpaste and comparative effectiveness research materials other than Aloe vera toothpaste.
