Abstract
Inflammation process in oral mucosal wounds were commonly found in population and often caused by mechanial traumatic. The ethanolic extract of turmeric contains curcumin which has been proven as an antiinflammatory and astringent agent. The aim of this study is to verify the antiinflammatory activity of turmeric ethanolic extract on the labial mucosal wound of 25 male rats Wistar divided into 5 groups where induced by mechanical trauma, wound diameter is 3 mm. Wounds treated by paste the cotton that soaked with the drug solution for 30 seconds, the negative control group using aquades; positive control group using hexetidine 0,1%; treatment group using ethanolic extract of turmeric consentration l%w/v, 2%w/v and 3%w/v. The wound diameter contraction was measured 3 days after treatment and then the data were analyzed using One Way- ANOVA (p=0,05), the result is ethanolic turmeric extract concentration l%w/v, 2%w/v, 3%w/v had significant antiinflammatory effect, the optimum effects seen in concentration of 3%w/v which wound diameter contraction is 1,98 mm. In conclusion, ethanolic turmeric extract shown antiinflammatory effect on oral mucosal wound-induced by mechanical trauma.
