Abstract

Oral contraception can increase the number of sexual hormone in the body of the user. These can influence the raising of blood vessel permeabillity, the increase of the cell and collagent, the decrease of folat, and can cause gingivitis. The aim of this research is to assume the relation between the using of oral contraception by women in the age of 18-45 years old with gingivitis at Panorama in Bengkulu. The method of this research is a descriptive survey through cross-sectionaJ approach. The number of research sample are 40 women in the age of 18-45 years old. The total number of users consist of 18 women (45 %) and Non-users 22 women (55 %). Data are taken by interview and gingival index examination. The analysis using Chi-square test with Yates correction. The result of this research are 67 % users by occurence of gingivitis, while 5 % Non-users with RP 14,67. The analysis statistically significant (p< 0,05). It can be concluded that oral contraception can make the occurence of gingivitis. It important to give information to the oral contraception users to keep their gingival health from the effect of oral contraception.
