Abstract
Glass ionomer cement is a restoratrve material used for permanent restoration of children teeth. One of the disadvantages of this material is low wear resistance so U’s easy for loosing its mass. This material can contact with children toothpaste that contain abrassive particles. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of children toothpaste with various abrassive particles on mass loss of glass ionomer cement as a restoratrve material. Thirty glass ionomer cement specimens which are cylindrical-shaped with 20mm in diameter and l,5mm in height were divided into 3 groups: glass ionomer cement brushed in water (control), Pepsodent for children with hydrated silica as abrassive particles, and Pigeon with dicalcium phospate as abrassive particles for 100 minutes. Mass loss was measured using a digital scale and the values were determined in %. The results showed that the highest mass loss was found in group brushed with Pepsodent for children (3,875±0,109%), while the lowest mass loss was found in group brushed with water (0,808±0.094%). The data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA and continued by Post-Hoc LSD test. The results of Post-Hoc LSD test showed that were signiflcant dijferences (p<0,05) in mass loss among groups. It can be concluded that children toothpaste with various abrassive particles can ajfect mass loss of glass ionomer cement as a restorative material which hydrated silica causes higher mass loss than dicalcium phospate.
