Abstract

Schoolchildren in general has a habit to buy sweels which they are likefoods that sweets and sticky in teeth. The frequent of carbohydrate diet, together with time influence dental caries. Dental caries in humans is one of the mosi extensive disease spread, estimated that 90% by the children. According to WHO, group of 12 years are imporlant because all teeth was erupt, so this established as a global monitoring age for caries. Dental caries has multifactorial etiology which three main factors such as microorganism (plaque), substrat e (carbohydrate diet) and host (tooth and saliva) and time (the fourth factor) interact. Behaviour factor also has role in dental health problems. This is caused the knowledge about interest of dental health maintenance too poor. The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between diet and behaviour keeping of dental health with caries accident. This study is descriptive with cross-sectional research design. Population is all students grade V and VI in SDN 23 Kecamatan Talang Kelapa Kabupaten Banyuasin, with samples totaled 136 students. The obtain of this data is by using a questionnaire. The result of this research proved that there are significant relationship between diet and dental health keeping behaviour (especially frequency and times of toothbrushing) with caries accident, but the behaviour: technic of toothbrushing, toolhpaste, and frequency of dental visits has no significant relationship with dental caries.
