Abstract

Research on Screening Extracts of Bacteria Associating with Sponges and Corals Soft as an antibacterial and antifungal from Tegal Island Lampung was held in March to May 2011. Resistance of pathogenic bacteria has become a problem to health and the need to search for new antibacterials which inhibit pathogenic bacteria. The potential of antibiotics have been found from marine resources, especially sponges and soft corals. This study aims to determine the effectiveness test and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of extracts of bacteria associated with sponges and soft corals against bacteria E.coli, S.aureus and C.albicans yeast. This research was conducted by the method of extraction of the sponge bacterial isolates (A23, A25) and soft corals (D11, D22). The next phase of testing the extract as an antibacterial against E.coli, S.aureus and C.albicans fungi in concentrations 100% and continued to Determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) with a concentration of 10%, 5%, 1%, and 0.05%. The results of screening for bacterial extracts from four types of bacterial isolates namely, A23, A25, D11 and D22 are known best antibacterial activity found in concentrations of 10% extract of E. coli A23 for 17.67±5.89 mm and against S.aureus by 18±3.00 mm. This study showed extracts of bacterial isolates Sarcophyton sp and Aplysina sp potential as an antibacterial against E. coli and S. aureus. Screening extracts of four species of bacteria isolates showed no antifungal activity against C.albicans. Key words: Screening, extract, antibacterial, E.coli, S.aureus, C.albicans Minimum Inhibitory Concentration.
