Abstract

This research was conducted in October 2010 - January 2011. Sampling of sponge was conducted in the waters of the Tegal island Lampung. This study aims to obtain symbiotic bacteria of sponge that has material potential as antibacterial and know the biochemical nature of the symbiotic bacterium of sponges that has the potential material as antibacterial. Bacteria of sponges were inoculated on NA media with for casting method. Results of inoculation were purified by the bowls scratch method. Purification selected 10 bacteria isolates to be performed screening of antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcusa aureus bacteria. Bacteria wes capable to forming inhibition zone was characterized to determine biochemically characteristic. This study found two isolate of symbiotic bacteria of sponges that can produce bioactive compounds that are antibacterial, bacteria A23 can restrain the bacteria S. aureus and E. coli and the bacteria A25 can only restrain the bacteria S. aureus. A23 bacteria are gram-positive bacteria ferment carbohydrates into lactic acid but don?t produce high concentration acid compounds, able to use carbon sources from citrat, produce the enzyme of urease, catalase, oxidase, glatinase, and motility. A25 bacteria are gram-negative bacteria, ferment carbohydrates into lactic acid but don?t produce high concentration of acid compounds, can ferment carbohydrates 2,3 butanadiol, able tu use carbon sources from citrat, produce the enzyme urease, catalase, oxidase Key word : Antagonist, Antibacterial, Bacteria, Screening, Symbiotic, Sponge
