Abstract

The machining process can cause vibrations and cause the effects of dimensional errors, geometry and surface quality. One of the machining processes that are widely used to manufacture a component is the freis (milling) process. This study aims to analyze the effect of cutting conditions on vibrations in the vertical freis machine's spindle head using cutting fluid and without using cutting fluid. The study was conducted with variations in cutting conditions cutting speed (Vc), feed motion per tooth (fz), and axial depth (ax). The sensor used is MEMS digital accelerometer ADXL-345 based on Arduino uno for the results of vibration signal analysis in the form of time domain. The test results found that the largest vibration occurs in the tangential direction (Y-axis) followed by the direction of eating motion (X-axis) and the smallest in the direction of the depth of feeding (Z-axis). The effect of variations in cutting speed (Vc), feed motion per tooth (fz), and axial depth (ax) to vibrations increased with an average percentage of vibrations in the process of using cutting fluid by 3% and in the process without using cutting fluid by 4.5% for variations in cutting speed (Vc). In the feed motion variation per tooth (fz), the percentage increase in the average vibration results in the process using cutting fluid by 2% and in the process without using cutting fluid by 2.5%, and for variations in the axial cutting depth (ax) get a percentage improvement in the process of using cutting fluid by 1.5% and in the process without using cutting fluid by 2%. From the results of the study that in the process without using the cutting fluid get a greater vibration than using the cutting fluid. keyword : Cutting Conditions, Vibration, Spindle Head
