Abstract

Aluminium is one type of metal that is often found in daily life. Objects that are made from Aluminium are often found in household appliances, one of them is a pan, if the pan is damaged it will cause waste that is difficult to be degraged. Re-casting is a method used to reduce the amount of waste from the use of used pans so that it can produce new metal. This casting used aluminium molds, which the material of the molds were made from the same materials of the object to be tested. The test samples would be heat treated to analyze the changes in the mechanical properties of the casting results that used aluminium molds. The heat treatment was conducted by conducting a solution treatment at 560 oC for 3 hours in a furnace. The process was continued by quenching used water media for 10 seconds. Then the aging process was conducted by using artificial aging which the temperature used for 185 oC with a variation of holding time for 1, 2 and 3 hours in a furnace. The results were obtained from the heat treatment processes namely the average scores of hardness and tensile strength which the highest average score of hardness was found in the test samples which were given aging for 3 hours, as much as 45.727 BHN. The highest score of tensile strength was found in the aging test samples for 3 hours as much as 132.78 N/mm2. In the test results of the impact had decreased which the lowest impact price was found in the test samples with aging for 3 hours as much as 0.0534 J/mm2.
