Abstract
Crane hook is one of the important components in industrial activities that used to lift heavy loads. When in operation, crane hook susceptible to failure due to stress concentration. Stress distribution analysis of crane hook needs t o be done in determining the stress concentration area earlier, so it can have the anticipation that would be carried out before the crane hook totally unable to operate. The analysis was conducted with the aid of Software based on finite element. In this study the geometry modeling of crane hook created using Solidworks and simulation performed using Autodesk Inventor 2016. Crane hook was loaded by 5 ton, 10 ton, 15 ton, 20 ton and 25 ton. The simulation results indicate that the location of critical stress occurs in the inner curvature area on the upper hook The results of the analysis, crane hook in a safe condition to use for load less than 20 ton where the working stress less than crane hook material yield stress. While the crane hook in an unsafe condition and failure to load greater than 20 ton for the working stress greater than crane hook material yield stress.
