Abstract

The purpose of the research are to know more clearly about people perception by the existence of water transportation, the function of water transportation, and also the avai/aible of infrastructure in Desa Sri Menanti Kecamatan Tanjung Lago Kabupaten Banyuasin. The primer resource in Jhis research come from the interview and observation about local people activity when using the water transportation. The secondary resource comes from the document that related by the research. The truth of the data testing by the triangulation. This resource is using kualitatif description method to explain the phenomenon which research using analysis in people life. This resource is using perception concept by Sarwono and the rational choices by James S.Coleman. In determining of the informan, the writer uses purposevily. It has purpose to get more information based on the research. The result of the research shows local people/ perception about water transportation. In their opinion, water transportation is the main mobility that will not replaced by others. Using water transportation in Sri Menanti village cvvers all necessary, such as to acrossing the place to another place, to containing the harvest product, as a transportation to fishing, as one job for S011Je people, as recreation transportation on river and to visiting family. For local people who has private water transportation will not g~t difficulty in using water transportation, than local people who has not water transportation, they are using public water transportation that avalaible on the river it is very influence people to acces water transportation. The avalaible water transportation infrastructure in Sri Menanti Village is already good eventhough it only has one kinds of public transportation.
