Abstract

Crude fiber in forages in the form of Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) is a constituent of plant cell walls. Non-Protein Nitrogen (NPN) are non-protein compounds that contain nitrogen such as amides, amines, amino acids. NPN is used by rumen microbes for the process of microbial protein synthesis. The aim of this study was to study the in situ digestibility of elephant grass Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) with the addition of Ruminofrass NPN. This research was carried out from September to December 2022 in the Individual Cages and Animal Feed and Nutrition Laboratory, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This study used the in sacco method and used T-test data analysis with 2 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment consisted of P0 (Elephant Grass), P1 (Elephant Grass + NPN Ruminofrass). Parameters observed were NDF and ADF concentrations of elephant grass incubated in an in-sacco manner, and dynamics of digestibility of NDF and ADF. The results showed that the NDF concentrations were significantly different (P<0.05), ADF concentrations were not significantly different (P>0.05) in situ. The dynamics of NDF P1 had a faster digestibility rate at 0-24 hours, after which it experienced a drastic decrease, this was not found in the P0 treatment where the digestibility rate did not change significantly. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the treatment with the addition of Ruminofrass NPN to elephant grass was able to accelerate the digestibility of NDF in 0-24 hours, whereas in ADF it had a constant digestibility rate so that the addition of Ruminofrass NPN had no significant effect on the digestibility of ADF.
