Abstract

Cooking oil is one of the staple food that is very important to meet the needs of household consumption. The high need for cooking oil makes people often use cooking oil repeatedly with the aim of saving purchases. Cooking oil that is used repeatedly can reduce the quality of fried foodstuffs and cause various diseases. The objectives of this study were: (1) to estimate the amount of packaged cooking oil consummed by households in Beringin Jaya Sub District, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City; (2) to analyze factors affecting household consumption of packaged cooking oil in Beringin Jaya Sub District, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City; (3) to describe the behavior of using and handling of cooking oil waste by households in Beringin Jaya Sub District, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City. Data collection was conducted in January 2023 with 50 household respondents consuming packaged cooking oil. Data were collected through interview using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS. The results obtained were: (1) the average amount of packaged cooking oil consummed by households in Beringin Jaya Sub District, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City was 4.26 liters per month or 1.11 liters per capita per month; (2) the number of family members, income, and price of packaged cooking oil have a significant effect on the consumption of packaged cooking oil, while age and education do not have a significant effect on the consumption of packaged cooking oil in Beringin Jaya Sub District, Pagar Alam Utara District, Pagar Alam City; (3) the average amount of cooking oil used was 316 grams per cooking and the cooking oil was used up to 3 times. The waste of the used cooking oil was directly disposed of into the sewer without any treatment.
