Abstract
This study was aimed to determine the effect of the type of organic growing media on each level of LED light intensity on pakcoy microgreens. The research was conducted in Alang-Alang Lebar District, Pakjo, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, from December 2022 to February 2023 for three planting periods. The design used was a Split-Plot Design which consisted of 2 factors, namely the intensity level of the LED lights as the main plot with a light intensity level of 800-1000 lux (one LED strip) (L0), a light intensity level of 1500-1700 lux (two LED strips) (L1), and a light intensity level of 2200-2400 lux (three LED strips) (L2) and the type of organic growing media as subplots with cocopeat (M1), husk charcoal (M2), mosspeat (M3), and fern root (M4), each with 3 replicates. The research data were analyzed using ANOVA at the 95% credibility and further tested with a 5% BNT test. The results showed that the treatment of light intensity levels had a significant to very significant effect on the percentage of germination in the 3rd planting period, plant height, root length, and root fresh weight of pakcoy microgreens 1st planting period, as well as fresh weight of pakcoy microgreens plants in all three periods of planting. The treatment of organic growing media types had a significant to very significant effect on all observed variables. Interactions between treatments had a significant to very significant effect on the percentage of germination in the three planting periods, fresh weight, root weight and root length of pakcoy microgreens in the 1st and 3rd planting periods, as well as the height of the pakcoy microgreens plants in the 1st and 2nd planting periods. Treatment of light intensity level of 2200-2500 lux or three LED strips and organic mosspeat growing substrate was the best treatment for the growth and production of pakcoy (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis) microgreens in 1st and 2nd planting periods, while the treatment of light intensity level 1500-1700 lux or two LED strips and mosspeat growing substrate was the best combination in the 3rd planting period.
