Abstract

PT J Resources Bolaang Mongondow is a gold mining company that is active in blasting activities. During September 2022, the Powder Factor value for ore blasting increased from 0.37 to 0.48 and the Powder Factor value for waste blasting decreased from 0.26 to 0.21. The fragmentation size to fit into the heap leach pad without crushing is P80 ≤ 10 cm. This study uses a quantitative method with data fragmentation, digging time, and combined cost details to analyze the effect of changes in the Powder Factor value. The geometric approach according to R.L Ash, C.J. Konya, and ICI Explosives combined with Kuz-Ram Theory to obtain fragmentation size predictions. Based on the results of the study, an increase in the Powder Factor value for ore blasting reduced the size of the original fragmentation from 16.28 cm to 11.52 cm with a lower cost of $ 0.08 per bcm but not according to the standard size of the desired fragmentation. Decreasing the Powder Factor value for waste blasting results in a digging time range of 8-9 seconds which is the standard digging time to achieve the productivity of the digging equipment at a lower cost of $0.07 per BCM. Blasting geometry according to ICI Explosives produces an optimal Powder Factor value of 0.65 to get P80 ≤ 10 cm but is not feasible from an economic point of view because it adds $ 0.08 per BCM to the cost.
