Abstract
The province of South Sumatra has a total area of approximately 87,017.42 km2 and lies between 1º - 4º south latitude, 102º - 106º East Longitude. South Sumatra, known as aquatic area, has large rivers with abundant water resources, these water resources are sourced from 9 major major rivers, the Musi River, and other rivers. (Kadin Indonesia, 2011). Turbine is a tool used to convert an energy into another energy. Turbines change the energy that comes from nature, for example wind, water and gas are converted into energy that can be utilized for everyday life. One example is a water turbine. Impulse turbine is a water turbine that converts energy from natural origin such as coconut trees that have a mass value of the object, the height of the object, and the acceleration of gravity is converted into energy that has pressure because the object is running or has a speed (move). The water flow at the time of leaving the nozzle has the same pressure. Reaction turbine This turbine produces a spin derived from the object's pressure or the gas mass of an object. This turbine is more suitable for low head and high flow than impulse turbine. Research on transverse flow water turbines has designed a blade with a parallel material (PVC). By comparing the variation of the blade quantities 8,10,12 to obtain maximum efficiency. Laboratory test equipment for Micro Hydro Power Plant or PLTMH to utilize renewable energy sourced from water with a capacity of 7 liters per minute with a water source from a pump with a speed of 7.3 m / s. Turbine diameter 20 cm and total blade 8,10,12 pieces. driven by a prime-motor drive of a single cylinder engine, a water turbine shaft is connected to a generator axle belt that produces AC converted to DC current. The results of this test with the variation of the number of blades 8 produces 28 W of power, the rotation of the blade of 311 rpm, and the efficiency of 11.5%, the number of 10 blades produces 45.7 W, the blade rotation of 321 rpm, and the efficiency of 18, 7%. the number of 12 blades produces a power of 60 W, the blade spin at 321 rpm, and an efficiency of 24.6%. The amount of blade and angle of the blade greatly affect the power and efficiency of the water turbine.
