Abstract

One of the environmental problems in Indralaya is improper wastewater treatment. Constructed wetlands are an effective and economical alternative to wastewater treatment. Constructed wetlands can be designed with controlled treatments, such as setting residence time and hydraulic loading rate (HLR). The high or low HLR value has a close relationship with the removal of waste water content, namely BOD, COD, TSS and Ammonia. This research is in the form of an experiment, namely by conducting laboratory tests to determine the levels of pollutants contained and the volume of gray water waste from the Indralaya market before and after entering the constructed wetland based on the influence of variations in HLR values. The initial conditions of the Indralaya Market greywater waste in laboratory testing were BOD 403.3 mg/L, COD 501.2 mg/L, TSS 74 mg/L and Ammonia 2.494 mg/L. The highest removal efficiency for BOD, COD, TSS and Ammonia pollutant levels was at the HLR1 variation (0.013 m3/m2.hour). While the removal of the lowest pollutant levels for the BOD, COD and Ammonia parameters occurred at HLR3 (0.006 m3/m2.hour), while TSS was at HLR2 (0.008 m3/m2.hour). HLR has an effect on the process of removing pollutant levels contained in the Indralaya Market greywater waste. The decrease in pollutant levels is also influenced by the plants used and microorganisms that work naturally in the constructed wetland.
