Abstract

Second degree burns include accidents that often occur in everyday life that can cause infection, dehydration etc. Ethanol extract of papaya leaves containing flavonoids and saponins has the potential to heal burns because they are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial. This study aims to determine the variation of gel-forming agents that affect the healing process of burns. Ethanol extract of papaya leaves was formulated as a spray gel preparation to facilitate use and avoid additional contaminants when applied. Spray gel preparations were analyzed which included organoleptics, homogeneity, adhesion, pH, viscosity, pump delivery, spraying patterns, and washing ability. Variations in the combination of gelling agents in formula 1 gave adhesion 10,526 ± 0,435 seconds, pH 5,947 ± 0,015, viscosity 1740 ± 0 cPs, pump delivery 24,981 ± 0,012 g, spraying pattern 1,094 ± 0,009 cm, washed 3,267 ± 0,153 mL and% recovery burn wound healing by 82.92%. Spray gel preparations with a combination of gelling agents in formula 2 gave adhesion of 1.74 ± 0.036 seconds, pH 5.597 ± 0.015, viscosity of 880 ± 0 cPs, pump delivery 24,958 ± 0.015 g, spraying pattern 4,717 ± 0.071 cm, washed 2,300 ± 0.100 mL, and % burn recovery by 78.87%. Gelling agent spray in formula 3 gave adhesion 1.543 ± 0.050 seconds, pH 6.347 ± 0.015, viscosity 1440 ± 0 cPs, pump delivery 24.962 ± 0.021 g, spraying pattern 1,419 ± 0.021 cm, washed 3.867 ± 0.153 mL, and %recovery of burn wound healing by 83.43%. The test results for formula 1 and formula 3 for the preparation of gel spray of ethanol extract of papaya leaves can accelerate the healing of burn wounds.
