Abstract

Absence is one of the important things in the learning process in a class. However, the attendance system currently used seems quite complicated and still has many drawbacks if done manually. False initials, lost attendance books, and the amount of time wasted because they have to queue are obstacles that are still common nowadays. Fingerprint sensor is a technology that can be used as a tool to identify a person. The methods used in this study include literature studies, system design, hardware design, and software design. In this study an attendance system was designed using the AS608 fingerprint sensor, Arduino UNO R3, and Microsoft Excel as an attendance database. By implementing fingerprint attendance , there will be no more falsification of initials, loss of attendance books, and wasted time. In this study, 15 student fingerprints were tested with 10 trials and the results showed that the accuracy of the sensor response to time and the average response time from one trial for each fingerprint data was 1.46 seconds. Using the fingerprint sensor as an attendance tool is expected to help in recording student attendance data. Keywords – Attendance, Fingerprint, Arduino Uno, Microsoft Excel.
