Abstract

Students who have high academic abilities will behave more positively and be able to take responsibility as a student. This research is descriptive quantitative research used to describe, explain, or summarise various conditions, situations, phenomena, or various research variables according to events as they are. This study aims to determine self�control in students who have high academic abilities at Sma negeri 18 Palembang. The population in this study was class X students of Sma negeri 18 Palembang, the sample was taken as many as 110 students using purposive sampling based on the top 10 scores from the homeroom teacher's document. To collect data, a questionnaire was used and analysed using percentages. Based on the results of research conducted at SMA Negeri 18 Palembang shows 30% (33 students) have low self-control, 33% (37 students) have self-control in the medium category, and 36% (40 students) have self-control in the high category. The results of the study for each indicator, on the indicator of the ability to control the situation 41% in the low category, the indicator of being able to control positive situations 41% in the high category, the indicator of being able to learn from experience 35% in the high category, the indicator of being able to make positive judgements 45% in the high category, on the indicator of being able to take positive action 40% in the medium category, on the indicator of being able to make decisions 37% in the high category.
