Abstract

Kandis acid (Garnicia xanthocymus) is an acidifier containing 2.4% of hydroxycitric acid or citric acid. Hydroxycitric acid contained in kandis acid plays a role in lowering the pH on the digestive tract of poultry by suppressing the growth of Eschericia coli bacteria so that the digestive tract of poultry becomes healthier and more optimal on absorbing food nutrients and also the work of food reform. This study aims to determine the effect of giving kandis acid extract (Garnicia xanthocymus) on the weight of the digestive organs of Peking ducks including the oesophagus, proventriculus, and ventriculus. This research was carried out from October to December 2022 in the Experimental Cages of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Animal Nutrition and Feed Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used grower phase with 64 Peking ducks obtained from Lampung City. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications. This treatment is addition kandis acid extract to Peking ducks ration with different degrees of acidity. The treatment used as follows : P0 (ration without kandis acid extract or control), P1 (ration + kandis acid extract with pH 2.3), P2 (ration + kandis acid extract with pH 3.3), and P3 (ration + kandis acid extract with pH 4.3). The variables observed were the oesophagus, proventriculus, and ventriculus of Peking ducks. The results of this study indicated that the addition of kandis acid extract in the ration at pH 3.3 resulted in a higher digestive organ weight of Peking ducks compared to other treatments. The conclusion of this study is that the addition of kandis acid extract at pH 2.3, 3.3, and 4.3 in Peking ducks has not been able to produce optimal weight percentages of the esophagus, proventriculus, and ventriculus.
