Abstract

Organic rice is grown with the application of organic fertilizers and is friendly to the environment. A healthy lifestyle encourages consumers to start choosing healthy foods for their body intake. Organic rice is free from chemical pesticide elements so it is very good for daily consumption. The existence of differences and influences of the cultural environment, social class, purchasing power, motivation, and lifestyle shape different consumer behavior. So the aims of this study are: 1) analyze what attributes are consumer preferences in consuming organic rice in Palembang City. 2) analyze what factors influence consumers to purchase organic rice in the city of Palembang. 3) analyze the proportion of food and non-food expenditures for organic rice consumers in Palembang City. This research was conducted in May 2023 with 60 consumer respondents who consumed organic rice. Data collection used the interview method with the help of a questionnaire and data processing using SPSS. The results obtained are: 1) attributes that are consumer preferences for buying organic rice that get the highest score, namely the cleanliness attribute with an average score of 13.33. 2) factors that have a significant effect on the demand for organic rice are variable price of organic rice, income, number of family members who consume organic rice, and lifestyle. 3) the average proportion of respondents' food expenditure is Rp.1,887,500, which is 41 percent, while for the average non-food expenditure of respondents, it is Rp. 2,739,750, which is 59 percent. Of the 60 respondents, the results showed that there were 40 people whose food expenditure was less than non-food expenditure by 67 percent
