Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the omaggio strategy on the listening ability of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Batu. This research is a quantitative research. The method in this research is a quasi-experimental with a true experimental design. The population in this study were students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Batu. Determination of the sample by random sampling technique. Based on this technique, it was obtained that class XI IPS 2 as the experimental class consisted of 34 students and class XI IPA 2 consisted of 36 students as the control class. Data collection technique with posttest. The validation used is the validation of the test instrument expert and the validation of the language expert. The instrument is valid. The reliability test used Cronbach's Alpha which showed a reliability index of 0.888 for the multiple-choice test instrument and 0.892 for the descriptive test instrument, which meant that both were reliable. Before data analysis is carried out, a normality test is first carried out which shows that the data results are normally distributed. The data analysis technique used is the t-test. The results showed that there were differences in the ability to listen to folklore for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Batu with the omaggio strategy and learning without the omaggio strategy. This difference is shown by the results of the –t test which was carried out with the help of the SPSS v22 computer program. The t-test scores the average score of students who get a score of 83.65 after listening to stories using the omaggio strategy compared to before without the omaggio strategy students get an average score of 62.78 which proves that learning with the omaggio strategy is more effective than learning without strategy omaggio.
