Abstract

This research discussed about "The Behavior of Using Bong (Latrines) in the Komering River (Study on the Community of Mangunjaya, Sirah Pulau Padang, Ogan Komering Ilir) ". River is the main source of water for the people who lives there. Therefore, the behavior of the community utilizing the river is a common phenomenon that has been going on for a long time. This research aimed to know and understand the utilization of the community in the use of bongs (latrines) in the Komering River in Mangunjaya, Sirah Pulau Padang. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative method and the findings were obtained from primary data in the form of observations, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Max Weber's theory of social action. The results of this study showed that the form of community behavior in using bongs in the Komering River are for bathing, washing, and latrines. There are four reasons why people still behave using bongs in the river, 1) it has become a habit of the community; 2) the high cost of installing PDAM; 3) the high cost of making bathrooms, and 4) limited availability of public toilets.
